- Why did you create this version of Connections?
- I was frustrated by the official version that reveals the solution after four wrong
guesses. Often I want to keep trying to solve the puzzle even if I have no guesses
remaining. It spoils it for me when the solution is revealed. So I made this version
in which the player can choose to reveal the solution or continue playing.
Additionally, I added other features to provide assistance to novice players.
- Why does the Settings Icon turn green?
- The Settings Icon (
) turns green (
) when any option has been selected. If no options
are chosen, the icon is black.
- What does the setting for "Show previous word colors" do?
- When you submit a guess, a row of four colored boxes appears,
one for the color of each word you guessed. Successive guesses cause rows to appear under each other.
For example, after three guesses you might have three rows like this:

(Note the order of the boxes does not match the order you selected the words.)
With some careful analysis the color of the boxes can help you revise your guesses.
- Why did the "Show previous word colors" setting become unchecked?
- The setting "Show previous word colors" is automatically turned off when the
setting "Show previous guesses with color" is selected. The latter setting provides
more information than the former, so they can't both be selected at the same time.
- Why are some days on the Archive page colored blue?
- A date on the calendar with a colored square is a puzzle that you have visited.
You may not have played it yet but the page has been displayed.
A gold star appears in the square when you solve the puzzle for that date.
- The gold stars on the calendar for my solved puzzles have disappeared.
- The record of your solved puzzles is stored in a "cookie" in your web browser. If you delete
the browser cookies, the gold stars go away. Because this site doesn't require players to login,
there is no way to permanently remember which player has earned which stars.
- What happens if I submit a guess that I already made previously?
- It won't count against you. An alert message will appear saying "Already guessed!"
- I enjoy the Create Puzzle feature for building my own puzzles. Can I share them with friends?
- Yes, on the page which displays your completed puzzle, look at the top right for the "Share" icon and label.
Clicking on the icon will copy a unique URL for your puzzle to the clipboard, which you can then paste
into an email to your friends. When a friend clicks on the link in your email message it will take
them to your puzzle page.
- Is there a privacy policy for this site?
- We don't gather any personally identifiable information, so we don't have a formal privacy policy.
If you build your own puzzle with the puzzle creator tool your puzzle (including optional author name) is
stored in our database. We never share this information with anyone.
